Love Island fans have claimed they are "tired" of the show after it came to light that two contestants already knew each other. The hit ITV2 reality show landed back on our screens for a summer of love this evening (June 5) as Maya Jama made her Mallorcan villa debut after hosting the winter series earlier this year.
Maya slow-mo strutted into the villa to deliver a huge twist to the islanders, informing them they would not be choosing their partners as the public had already done the honours for them. As more singletons trickled into the mix, Maya revealed who would be partnered with who, announcing that Ella Thomas and Tyrique Hyde would be a couple.
As Glaswegian model Ella walked over to semi-professional footballer Tyrique, she said something that made viewers raise their eyebrows. "Do you remember me from before?" she asked.

"When?!" replied Tyrique, seemingly confused.
Ella then told her new partner that they had met "not even that long ago" whilst they were "in London", which still didn't jog his memory.
Later on in the episode, Ella told her fellow girls that she had met Tyrique before as she confessed that he was "really good looking and [her] type". "I'm not being funny but he's literally pretending he doesn't remember," she claimed. "I'm not being funny but there's no way you don't remember."
Shortly after, Ella and Tyrique discussed their previous meeting, with Ella claiming that she felt like Tyrique was "pretending" not to remember her. "That just shows me how many girls you meet," Ella said, as she claimed to have immediately recognised Tyrique as she walked in.
"Your face did look a bit familiar," Tyrique confessed. "Oh my days, yeah, I do remember you. Yeah, you look mad different! You look nicer though."
Fans on Twitter were not convinced that Ella and Tyrique's meeting was pure coincidence, with some questioning whether their coupling was a "fix". Takeover tweeted: "People know each other on this show every single year without fail."
"Love island is fake and a fix," claimed BR17. "Some couples already know each other. How? Really…."
Yinkz wrote: "Wait Tyrique and Ella already know each other ? Lol I’m tired of this show."
"Why do people who always know each other end up on this show at the same time???" added Marie Reine. "How small is the UK?"
