The Love Island recouplings are notoriously full of drama and the first one of the winter 2023 series is no exception. On Friday, January 20, just four nights after the show launched, the first recoupling is taking place and it is said to cause shockwaves in the villa.
The islanders receive a text to say the girls will be choosing who to couple up with. There are currently seven boys and six girls with farmer Will the only single person from the original line up after bombshell Tom stole Olivia from him. There are also new bombshells in the mix, Zara and David.
Reacting to the news of the impending coupling, Will says: "I’m not even being funny I’m sh*tting it”. Shaq, who isn’t sure who his current partner Tanya will pick, replies: “My heart is racing.”

Currently the islanders are coupled up as follows: Tanya and Shaq; Anna-May and Haris; Lana and Ron; Tanyel and Kai and Olivia and Tom - with Will now single.
But there's been lots of flirting going on during the last few days, especially since two more bombshells entered the villa - Zara, who chose Ron for a date, and David who went on a date with Tanya. And on Thursday night, tensions ran over after a seemingly innocent game of alcohol-free beer pong saw the islanders snogging, licking and nibbling each other which apparently lit the fuse for an almighty row later that evening. You can read more on that here.
Also in Friday's episode, Haris and Shaq catch up after the beer-pong fallout. Speaking to Shaq in the garden, Haris says: “The only thing that got to me is to call me a ‘sh*t stirrer’, that’s a big thing.” And Shaq explains to Haris how he’s feeling about the situation.
Meanwhile, new bombshell Zara pulls Ron aside to ask if he's open to getting to know her, despite being coupled up with Lana. Ron also has Tanyel vying for his affection. He eventually tells one of the girls: “I want to focus all my energy. You’re the whole picture.”
Love Island is on ITV2 on Friday, January 20 at 9pm.
