Love Island 2023 bombshell opens up about alopecia battle

Love Island bombshell Layla Al-Momani has opened up about being diagnosed with alopecia. The 28-year-old, who recently took part in the show’s Casa Amor challenge, took to her Instagram Stories to share her hair loss experience.

In a short social media clip, Layla said: "Whenever people compliment my hair, it means so much because I have alopecia.” She then raised her phone camera to reveal the top of her head.

Later on, during a Q&A, one fan asked Layla: "Can you speak more on your hair please? Sincerely a 4C hair girlie going through it too." The brand managing director then replied: "Yes honey. A few people [have] been asking for advice on Alopecia. I'll help as much as I can from my experience with it but I'm no doctor or professional. I'll post it later tonight or tomorrow as this Story is about to expire."

Alopecia is the medical name generally given to any type of hair loss. Find out more about the condition on the NHS website.

During her short stint in the villa, Layla caused a stir when she kissed Will Young. Ahead of the Casa Amor challenge, Will was coupled up with Jessie Wynter.

Upon leaving the villa, Layla has been vocal about the hate she has received following her time on the ITV2 dating show. She told The Daily Star: "The abuse has been a lot. I have struggled with that. If you look at [spin-off show] Aftersun, you can see my eyes are really red because I've been crying before.

"It's tough because I feel like I have to defend myself, but in a really careful way, because anything I say at the moment, people are just like, 'Oh, but you're this, you're that'. It's really wild because, ultimately, I do have feelings. At the end of the day, I am an actual person with feelings. There's not been a day that I haven't cried."

Love Island continues on ITV2 and ITVX at 9pm. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
