Love Island's 2022 final has proved to be record-breaking as millions tuned in to watch Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti win the show last night.
Over 100,000 more viewers tuned in to watch this year's final than in 2021, which saw Millie Court and Liam Reardon crowned the winners.
According to ITV figures, 3.4million viewers watched the show through ITV2 and ITV Hub, making it the biggest finale since 2019 after their explosive series.
Via streaming, the show has broken records after becoming the most watched series ever on ITV Hub after acquiring more than 250million streams this series.
The series has averaged around 2.7million viewers across the run, based on overnight TV ratings. This makes it the second highest rating series ever - following behind series five.
Including catch-up data and ITV Hub audiences across devices, the consolidated series average stands at 4.6 million across devices.
Ekin-Su and Davide had gone head-to-head with Gemma and Luca after Tasha and Andrew and Dami and Indiyah came fourth and third, respectively.
After their win was announced, Ekin-Su, 27, broke down in tears as Davide, also 27, gasped: "I can't believe it."
Ahead of the dramatic final, the bookies were backing Davide and Ekin-Su for the win to take home the prize money.
Unlike in previous years, the winning couple did not have to choose whether to split or steal the prize money.
This comes after reports Ekin-Su and Gemma are both set for £1million paydays as the real winners of this year’s Love Island.
The glamorous pair have been earmarked as the biggest potential earners from the 2022 series, with brands queuing up to sign them.
An insider said: “Ekin-Su and Gemma have been the stand-out stars in terms of marketability. Ekin-Su is not only beautiful, but she also has a captivating personality.
“Gemma has such a wise head on her shoulders. With the Owen name, she already has a big profile which brands want to tap into. And her own swimwear brand, OG Beachwear, will be sure to get a big boost.”
