Louts daub paint in popular Lockerbie children's play park

Louts have vandalised a Lockerbie children’s play park.

White paint has been daubed throughout Lambhill Park to the annoyance of local parents, youngsters and the community council.

Lockerbie and district community councillor Lucie Dudgeon said: “The park has been hit by white paint in three different areas including the swings and the slide.

“It’s a huge shame because the kids that use it are so small that they need to be at a park that’s close to home and that’s the closest one for many. So it’s very upsetting that their park has been vandalised.”

It is the latest in a series of antisocial behaviour issues in the town which has included vandals dumping beans in a bucket seat at nearby McJerrow Park.

Lucie, 40, added: “It’s mindless and a waste of public money to fix a park because you were bored and decided to chuck paint over something.

“There’s been some malicious vandalism where people have broken plastic and pushed it into the ground and bolts have been taken out of equipment. It’s a real concern that people could do this. Boredom isn’t an excuse.

“It’s paint so structurally it won’t have much of an impact but it’s not the point. It’s showing the kids that people are treating their park like that. It’s the lack of care and it’s quite worrying – who would do something like this? It’s a worry who is going up there and choosing to do something like that. It’s not nice.”

The issue was raised this week by 13-year-old Logan Teasdale who is one of the youth representatives for the community council.

Community council chairperson Jan Andrews said: “Logan said people were very disappointed that damage had been done to the park. He expressed his concerns and Councillor Stephen Thompson said it’s been reported to the council and they’ll look into it. It’s shocking that behaviour is taking place.”

A council spokesperson said: “We’re aware of the vandalism at Lambhill Park and are working to rectify this.

“Damage to public property impacts on people’s enjoyment of the facilities and costs the council money. We have informed Police and appeal to the public to contact them if they have any information that could assist their investigation.”
