Louis Theroux has given an update on his health after his hair started falling out.
The documentary maker, 55, has been dealing with alopecia for the last five years, and said viewers might have noticed his “weird” and “patchy” hair while watching Inside The Manosphere.
He said his hair was at its “lowest ebb” while he was working on the film.
But, in a new video posted to Instagram, Theroux said he was pleased his hair had been growing back - though he wasn’t quite sure why it has reappeared.
“A year ago, almost to the week, I posted about my alopecia,” the star said.

“Starting in 2021 my beard started falling out, then my eyebrows, then patches appeared in my hair.
“So here we are five years later, and after hitting bottom in 2025 me and my scalp have been enjoying some bounce-back!
“Regrowth in several major areas!”
The star said in the video this was despite not taking any medication, or being careful with his diet, or being less stressed.
“Anyway, I’m very grateful. I like having hair,” he continued.

Alopecia is a general term for hair loss and there are a number of reasons why a person can develop it.
According to Alopecia UK, there are various types of alopecia linked to things such as autoimmune conditions, vitamin deficiencies, stress, cancer treatment and psychological issues.
It comes after the presenter has been tipped to sign a huge deal with Netflix after the success of his Inside the Manosphere documentary - and may even film a follow-up to the original.
Inside The Manosphere shows Theroux interviewing several social media influencers and podcasters who are at the forefront of a toxic cultural movement targeting young men, often with extreme views online.
He met with controversial figures like Myron Gaines, who wants “multiple wives” and thinks men should be “dictators”, and HSTikkyTokky, who aired shocking homophobic views in the film.

The documentary, which dropped on March 11, was watched by four million viewers in the UK in its first seven days and was number one in the film category.
Now, the streaming giant is said to be “clamouring” to create more shows with Theroux, in what would be a “blow” to his longtime employer, the BBC.
The Standard has contacted Theroux’s representatives for comment.
