Louie Spence keen for shot on I'm A Celeb and jokes he has 'every phobia but homophobia'

Louie Spence has admitted he would love to test himself on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here, but doesn't think bosses would consider him.

The flamboyant dancer, 53, believes it would be the perfect test for his mental health as he has "every phobia but homophobia," but thinks his spell on Big Brother would put him out of the running to appear.

Speaking exclusively to Mirror Online, the former Dancing On Ice judge said: "I would do it. Like I've got every phobia apart from homophobia, darling."

He insisted that unlike others, he wouldn't be focused on the money involved or the profile boosting aspect, but more so to put himself through one of the most challenging experiences possible.

"That'd be a real challenge for my mental health, you know?" he added. "I've got claustrophobia, agoraphobia. Any phobia. Like I said, the only one I haven't is homophobia.

"I think I'd be fantastic in there."

However, he claimed being on Big Brother will scupper his chances as a crossover between the two is a no-go area for the show's bosses, therefore he thinks he is already ruled out.

Louie went on to openly discuss his past struggles with mental health, but revealed he's "in a good place at the moment".

He has previously described having anxiety as a child and suffering from depression.

And he confessed to being on an antidepressant called sertraline for about five years before making the decision to come off them last year.

He candidly continued: "I finally came off them because I was still feeling anxious on them and having panic attacks and anxiety and I would have had to up my dose or come off them so I decided to come off them and just try and manage it."

He revealed he currently feels alright and only sometimes takes tablets for the short term before he added: "For someone that does suffer with anxiety or depression, or any kind of mental illness, it's either constant or comes in waves and it's about managing it.

"So, you know, I've decided to try and manage it through having more of an understanding that it's all in my head and I'm creating it myself. But yeah, I'm actually in a good place at the moment."

He then joked how he was in a "better place now with the two baldies" during the chat.

Louie was speaking as Fix Radio's Bald Builders, Brad Hanson and Sam Hughes, helped to convert his outdoor home space into a luxury new decking area during a fun-filled and sun soaked day.

The pair had reached out to the former Pineapple Dance Studios star as part of the 'Sam Slides In' segment of their new national show.

It saw Louie respond to the guys' questions about his home renovation project and Brad admitted that creating a nice outdoor area can also help with your mental health.

He said such a space has become so important, especially since the Covid pandemic. "It's about making maximum use of your bit of land," he added.

"Through lockdown, that outdoor space could help your mental aspect as well. Louie now has a nice timber deck which he can use all year round."

Louie added: "I mean, for me, having that bit of space after lock down [has been important].

"It's been a massive necessity. Sometimes you just need that bit of space where you feel as though you can get away.

"If you can actually get out, it just gives you that feeling of space, that bit of freedom and somewhere you can relax for a minute. It's really, really important."

And in true Louie fashion he admitted that the space is going to double up as a stage.

He joked: "Although it's a decking, it's actually more of a stage. I mean, I haven't got here - I've got a lovely lake with koi carp and room for two ponies, but I didn't have a stage.

"I thought the boys can build me a beautiful decking for the summer that can also double up as a stage for rehearsal in the summer, darling."

Fix Radio has been built with tradespeople in mind and is currently broadcasting nationwide on DAB, online and through their app.
