If you live in Swansea and parts of Carmarthenshire chances are you heard some loud jet aircraft circling the skies this afternoon (April 26). People living in many different areas of the city have reported hearing the aircraft fly low over head, sparking a discussion as to what they were.
According to FlightRadar24, the flight tracking website, one of the aircraft was a Royal Air Force (RAF) BaE Systems Hawk 128 T.2. The second is also understood to have been a Hawk.
The RAF says on its website that the Hawk is used in two "very distinct variants" in a flying training role, bringing personnel up to fast jet operational conversion unit input standards after they graduate from the turboprop Texan T1.

It adds: "The aircraft's glass cockpit and comprehensive avionics suite provide a realistic advanced fast jet training platform which, as part of the UK Military Flying Training System (UK MFTS), meets current and future standards. It allows trainees to be immersed in more complex tactical environments, 'downloading' training from the OCUs onto the Hawk, which is far more economical to fly than the Typhoon or the F35."
