BBC Sport pundits Mark Lawrenson and Fara Williams cannot see Leeds United escaping their battle against Premier League relegation. The Whites currently sit in the bottom three with just two matches remaining, with the two sides above them – Burnley and Everton – both having a game in hand.
Leeds have picked up just one point from their last four matches which has seen them slip into the relegation zone for the first time since October, with their poor run coinciding with Burnley’s best form of the season. After a five-match unbeaten streak during Jesse Marsch’s early days as manager, Leeds have struggled hugely since, with performances arguably at the worst level they have been all season.
Speaking on BBC One’s Football Focus, Lawrenson – in his final ever show – claimed that Leeds have lost everything that was good about them, while 172-time capped England Women’s midfielder Williams thinks it was an impossible job for Marsch to be able to change how the Whites play in such a short space of time.

He said: “No, I don’t think they do. They’re playing angry at the moment, I don’t get it. They’re getting players sent off every game. They’ve lost everything - their rhythm and all sorts and they can’t score. The way they are at the moment, got Brighton tomorrow, Brighton suddenly in a good vein of form. I just don’t see it with Leeds.”
Williams then added: “You’ve got to have that [belief] going into the last few games but I do think the change in manager, because they played a particular way, it was too difficult to change that mindset in such a short space of time to keep them up. They’ve really struggled in terms of how they play on the pitch.”
