The promise of a better draft pick is supposed to be the silver lining whenever your NFL team loses. But that hasn’t been the case for the New Orleans Saints. They picked a bad year to go belly up, and an embarrassing loss to the Green Bay Packers on Monday night didn’t do anything to help their outlook.
According to the experts at Tankathon, if the 2025 NFL draft started today the Saints would be slotted in at No. 10 overall — the same position they held before slipping to 5-10 this season.
That wouldn’t be the case in most years. Since the NFL introduced its 17-game season back in 2021, losing double-digit games would be enough to lock up one of the first seven picks. This year it’s putting you at tenth. There are too many other bad teams in the league this season for the Saints to capitalize on the fringe benefits that come with a bad record.
It’s disappointing, but that’s been the story for the team Mickey Loomis built. They haven’t met expectations. They haven’t seized on the opportunities in front of them. They haven’t been good enough, and their record reflects that. With just two games left to play, it’s anyone’s guess what changes to fix that.
Here’s where the Saints currently slot in through all seven rounds, per Tankathon:
- Round 1, Pick 10
- Round 2, Pick 42
- Round 3, Pick 74
- Round 3, Pick 88 (via Washington)
- Round 4, Pick 111
- Round 4, Pick 125 (via Washington)
- Round 6, Pick 185
- Round 7, Pick 253 (Projected compensatory)
