Lorry narrowly avoids hitting cottage in crash on A338 in Collingbourne Ducis, Wiltshire

A lorry has narrowly avoided colliding with a property in a Wiltshire village. The thatched cottage was thankfully saved by a deep bourne during the smash on the A338 in Collingbourne Ducis at around 4.30am today.

A white Ford Focus also ended up in the ditch as the driver swerved to avoid the Home Bargains lorry. Neither of the drivers involved were hurt in the crash.

At 9am, recovery work was ongoing at the scene - with the road partially blocked to motorists.

Villager Simon Gilford said it was not the first incident of its kind along the stretch of road and that the A338 needed to be reclassified as a B road. He said that neither driver was hurt.

Another local resident said: "This is one of my worries living in Collingbourne, a lorry ending up in the front of our house. They shouldn't be allowed through here."

Wiltshire Police has been approached for comment.
