Lorry full of rubbish overturns as men try to clear pile of waste

A lorry full of rubbish has overturned on a grass bank, leaving a pile of waste behind.

Merseyside Police first received a call at 11.45am on Wednesday, November 9, following reports of a crash on North Perimeter Road in Kirkby. Once officers arrived at the scene, between Headbolt Lane and Pingwood Lane, they found a lorry had overturned onto a grass bank.

The driver of the vehicle needed to be removed from the vehicle as they were trapped inside. Merseyside Police have confirmed the man was not injured and didn't require hospital treatment.

The top of the vehicle cracked open with the impact of the crash, which led to a pile of rubbish being left on the grass bank. Oil was also spilled on the carriageway.

Pictures from the scene show a number of men trying to clear the huge pile of waste before two cranes started trying to lift the vehicle onto its wheels again.

The road is still closed in both directions while work continues to remove rubbish from the road.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "We received reports that a heavy goods vehicle overturned on North Perimeter Road in Kirkby at around 11.45am today, Wednesday 9 November. The driver was removed from the vehicle and no injuries were reported at the scene.

"The roundabout on North Perimeter Road and the junction between Headbolt Lane and Pingwood Lane is closed until the vehicle is removed from the area."
