A lorry driver was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a horror crash on the A75.
Two parked cars were crushed in the smash which happened just before midnight on Monday.
Crocketford village traffic lights were also destroyed and some houses were left without power.
The crash involved two lorries, one carrying live chickens, and a car, as well as the two parked vehicles.
The road was closed for several hours to allow one of the lorries to be recovered after it overturned.
One villager said: “It crushed one car, hit the traffic lights and ended up against a house with another car underneath it.”
There have been calls for years for an A75 bypass of the village and nearby Springholm.
And they have been renewed after Monday’s incident.
Local councillor Iain Howie said: “I don’t know the specifics of this particular accident but it certainly gives further justification to the case for a bypass around both Crocketford and Springholm.”
Police closed the A75 shortly after the incident with motorists diverted via Haugh of Urr and Dalbeattie. It wasn’t reopened until around 2pm on Tuesday.
A police spokesman said: “We were made aware of a crash involving two lorries, a car and two parked cars on the A75 at Crocketford around 11.35pm on Monday.
“The 41-year-old male driver of one of the lorries was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary for treatment to a serious but non-life threatening injury. All other drivers were uninjured.”
Fire crews were also dispatched along with an ambulance.
A fire service spokesman said: “Operations control mobilised three appliances and specialist resources to the scene where a lorry had collided with two vehicles.
“One male casualty was in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.”
An ambulance service spokesman added: “We dispatched one ambulance and our special operations team to the scene. We transferred one patient to Dumfries and Galloway A and E.”
Galloway MSP Finlay Carson said: “In light of this latest accident, it simply cannot come fast enough as clearly there are major safety issues surrounding this road.”
