Lorry driver killed mum-of-four 'trapped' inside broken down car on motorway

A lorry driver has dodged jail after he crashed into and killed a mum-of-four whose car had broken down on the motorway and left her 'trapped' inside. John Bowers, 35, was travelling in a skip lorry on the M60 anticlockwise carriageway when he failed to notice the Kia Creed had come to a stop with its hazard lights on.

The car was sitting on the hatch marked area dividing lane one of the motorway from the slip road at junction 20. Shirley-Ann Dumbuya, 38, had been unable to move her vehicle after it broke down on the road and was 'trapped' inside.

According to Manchester Evening News, she had contacted Green Flag but was told they could not attend unless the car was on the hard shoulder. Just a few minutes later, Bowers, of Preston, smashed into the vehicle.
