A lorry driver was issued with a fine by police after being caught taking a tachograph break in a live lane on the M56.
The driver had stopped on the motorway on an open access slip road in the early hours of Wednesday morning (March 30). North West Motorway Police brought the driver's strange parking to attention on their Twitter account where a picture revealed the lorry stationary on a downhill live lane.
The tweet from the motorway police said: "Our ME58 came across this HGV on access slip road of M56 stopped in live lane to take a tacho break - ticket issued."

A tacho break is an enforced rest that HGV drivers must take. The information is monitored by the vehicle's tachograph. After four-and-a-half hours of driving HGV drivers are legally mandated to take a break of at least 45 minutes.
In response to North West Motorway Police's tweet, one person criticised the parking but added it revealed the lack of rest areas for HGV drivers.
Their tweet in response said: "Clearly this is stupid and deserves a ticket - but the complete lack of rest areas and truck stops in the UK is beyond criminal. We rely on trucks for a massive amount of our day to day goods, yet provide so little for them to actually abide by the law on driving hours."
In November last year North West Motorway Police gave a ticket to a van driver who bedded down for the night on the hard shoulder with no lights on.
