Lorry crashes on West Lothian Road as emergency services rush to separate incidents

A major West Lothian road is currently closed due to a traffic collision, with a separate incident involving a crashed lorry on the diversion route causing huge delays for motorists.

The initial incident has closed the A89 eastbound between the Boghall roundabout and the Tesco distribution centre, with the smash happening around 7:15am on Thursday morning, October 27.

Traffic being diverted via Carnegie Road are facing further delays due to another road traffic collision on that route as tailbacks start to form ahead of rush hour. Pictures on social media show a large HGV that has left the road and crashed into the banking.

A video on Snapchat shows the huge lorry having left the road and grinded to a halt with damage to the front of the vehicle, although the driver appears to have left the cab without any major injuries.

It is unclear how many vehicles are involved in the smash on the A89, but is it understood that emergency services are in attendance.

Several West Lothian bus routes have also been diverted due to the incident, with the 280, X18 and X28 all affected. A service alert on Lothian Buses website reads: "Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve the A89 at Tesco Distribution Centre and are instead diverted via Carnegie Road in both directions until further notice."

Motorists in the area are being urged to use an alternative route if possible due to both reported incidents.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 6.45 am on Thursday, 27 October, to a report of a crash on the A89 just outside Bathgate involving four cars.

“A 41-year-old man was taken to St Johns Hospital by ambulance to be checked over.

“The road was closed and re-opened around 9.30am.”

They also confirmed that a lorry went off the road on Carnegie Road and the recovery of the vehicle will prompt the route to be closed for a short while.
