Lorraine Kelly opened up about a 'heartbreaking' conversation she had with daughter Rosie after she returned to the UK.
Rosie, 27, moved to Singapore when she was 22 years old - and while it started out as a six-month trip, she ended up staying for three and a half years before moving home in 2020.
However, as delighted as mum Lorraine would have been for her to return home, she had to have a sad talk with her about safety as she adjusted to life in the UK again.
The ITV presenter revealed she had spoken to her daughter about staying safe in public spaces after Rosie returned from Singapore before the first lockdown.
Speaking to the Be Honest podcast hosts, she said: “I had to have the conversation with her that I found quite heartbreaking actually, which was, this is not Singapore, you cannot walk home on your own.”
She continued: “You know, you can't leave your drink in the bar. You can't do all these things.
“And of course, she's in London, but equally if she was in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle and Belfast, I would have had the same conversation.
“And that's terribly sad, you know, talking to her, telling young women that that's how it is.
“And that's really, and it's only when you're in that position that you know, and we've obviously had the high profile, dreadful tragedies of young women getting murdered, getting attacked, and all of this and it's just really, really sad.”
Lorraine insisted changes are needed for things to improve.
She said: “There has to be a real, a real sea change.”
Despite the sad chat she needed to have, Lorraine was delighted when Rosie returned home again.
She told MailOnline: "There’s nothing like being able to give your child a cuddle.
"Every mother will know what I’m saying – there’s just nothing like the smell of your child’s hair. Rosie always smells so good.
"I’m trying not to be too teary, because I don’t want to embarrass her, but being able to hold her after all that time was just fantastic."
