Lorraine Kelly missing from ITV show as Carol Vorderman steps in to replace her

Carol Vorderman sat in for Lorraine Kelly on ITV's Lorraine on Monday, July 11. The presenter was forced to miss her show after testing positive for Covid-19 over the weekend.

Good Morning Britain hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls introduced Carol during their own show on Monday. GMB's Ed Balls recalled a moment, earlier in the day, when he saw Carol entering the studio.

He described how he questioned: "Is that Carol Vorderman?" A confused Susanna Reid, his GMB co-host, told Carol: "I didn't think you were in for our programme and you're not..." It was then that the Countdown legend confirmed that she was stepping in for Lorraine.

Carol said: "Sadly, Lorraine has caught the dreaded, you-know-what, and I'm sitting in for a few days." She then went on to wish Lorraine a "speedy recovery".

Posting a photograph of her dogs, Lorraine wrote on her Instagram: "The dreaded Covid has finally caught up with me."

She added: "I am so thankful to the scientists who developed the vaccine! Being looked after by @rosiekellysmith @rubyisasausage and @steveandangussmith - thanks to @carolvorders for hosting @lorraine until I’m back!"

Fans flooded social media to wish Lorraine a speedy recovery. One person said: "Get well soon xxx"

Meanwhile, another wrote: "Awww poor Lorraine!! Hope you're ok and it's not too severe with the vaccines helping!!"

Carol is no stranger to sitting in for Lorraine. The 61-year-old, who found fame on Countdown, has appeared multiple times since ITV rebooted the show in 2018.

It comes after BBC Breakfast's Jon Kay was forced to miss his first day on the show for the same reason. The presenter was announced as Dan Walker's replacement last week but was absent from the red sofa on Monday after testing positive for Covid-19.

He wrote on Twitter: "Aaaagh! Finally got me. Gutted not to be able to start the new job officially @BBCBreakfast on Monday. I guess working from home isn’t really an option @BBCFrediani?" You can read more about Jon Kay here.
