Lorraine Kelly couldn't contain her laughter after finding out Mary Berry's unusual Christmas hack.
The former Great British Bake Off presenter spoke to Dish podcast hosts Nick Grimshaw and chef Angela Hartnett about the bizarre way she prepares her Christmas turkey. Dame Mary, 87, revealed her rather thrifty way to keep her turkey warm and prevent it from going dry before carving it is to keep it in a sleeping bag.
Lorraine, 63, was left in stitches discussing Mary's unique method on her ITV show as she replayed the podcast clip. The ITV host was unable to hold back her laughter as the clip of Mary played for viewers.
Mary told listeners: “I roast the turkey at home, and I’ve learned not to overcook it. So many times, even I have overcooked it.
“This time I’m cooking it without foil, I shall cover it with foil once it’s done, then I shall put some tea towels over the top.”
She continued: “I’ve got an old sleeping bag that’s got no zip and I put that over the top in the corner of the kitchen and then I shall take that in the back of the car to Annabel’s (Mary’s daughter).
“Once you take it out of the oven, it goes on cooking. And so you want to insulate that. I shall pop it in the back of the car inside its sleeping bag and we’ll be having drinks and lots of jollity until we need to carve it.”
The unusual method didn't seem to put others off, as on This Morning host Alison Hammond thought the idea was genius and added: “Obviously I’m going to wash the sleeping bag first, but I’m going to try this.”
As Vanessa Feltz added: “Everything Mary’s said, we curtesy, she’s right, I worship at her alter - we all do.”
Dame Mary will return to screens for Mary Berry’s Ultimate Christmas on December 19, where she will divulge more hints and tips on how to make the ultimate Christmas feast.
