In 2019, Michigan State had one famous alumnus inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame when Morris Peterson was added to the prestigious group. In 2022, they will have a chance to add two more, as Lorenzo White and Shawn Respert were both named as finalists to be inducted.
Lorenzo White is arguably the best Michigan State running back of all-time, where he rushed for 2,066 yards and 17 touchdowns in the 1985 season. To put that in perspective, Kenneth Walker III ‘only’ had 1,636 yards last season. White played for MSU from 1984-87 before going onto a successful NFL career.
Shawn Respert was a phenom for MSU, where he averaged 21.3 points per game in his five years in East Lansing. Stomach cancer derailed his NBA career but he will be remembered as one of the best pure scorers in Big Ten basketball history.
Lorenzo White and Shawn Respert are both finalists for the 2022 Michigan Sports Hall of Fame!
