Lorenzo Amoruso in brutal Rangers Champions League verdict as he names biggest Ibrox hope against 'superior' Napoli

Former Rangers captain Lorenzo Amoruso reckons Napoli's complacency and the raucous Ibrox crowd are the two best hopes for his old club to get a Champions League victory. The Italian has been hugely impressed with the Serie A leaders after their thrashing of last season's runners-up Liverpool in their Group A opener and a storming domestic start.

And the 51-year-old knows the Light Blues are on the ropes after conceding four goals in consecutive games while throwing in the fact Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti usually hits top form in his second season in charge at clubs. But Amoruso says believing they are far superior is the biggest danger for Napoli.

The former defender - nine major honours in six years at Ibrox - told Radio CRC: "For how they beat Liverpool and how well they are playing, there is good hope. In the Champions League they will face a team on the back of two heavy defeats.

"But the Rangers stadium is very heated and the hosts will fight until the end. But Napoli are superior. The only pitfall of Napoli can be Napoli itself which must understand that they cannot even think of underestimating the opponent. This passage with Rangers is fundamental, because a victory would move Napoli in a good way towards qualification. Rangers will certainly have the boost of 55,000, but Napoli are not new to these situations.

"The second year for Spalletti is almost always the best and that's what's happening a bit. The fear is that the team may think they can beat Rangers for the great performance against Liverpool. Don't make the mistake of thinking you are superior. Napoli is dynamic and impresses with the speed changes in matches."
