Loose Women viewers accuse panel of attacking Keir Starmer in 'car crash' interview

Viewers tuning into Monday's Loose Women were not overly impressed as the panel interviewed Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer.

The 59-year-old politician joined Ruth Langsford, Linda Robson, Brenda Edwards and Jane Moore in the ITV studio to mark the beginning of Arthritis Care Awareness Week 2022.

However, before speaking to Keir about his mother Josephine and her battle with Arthritis, the ladies were keen to ask him about Boris Johnson.

Commenting on Sir Keir's desire for the Prime Minister to resign, Ruth informed him that 63 per cent of voters branded him a 'hypocrite' in a recent poll.

Responding, Sir Keir said: "I think the big difference is that I've been very clear that I haven't broken the rules.

"But equally I've said that if the police do issue me with a fixed penalty notice, I will do the right thing and I will step down, so I've put everything on the line because I think that's the right thing to do."

As Sir Keir referred to Boris' rule-breaking and 'Partygate', Ruth reminded him: "But you'd had a curry takeaway for 30 people delivered, as we understand it."

Quickly correcting her, he said: "No it wasn't 30 people, that's already been retracted," as Jane chimed in: "How many was it?"

Barely looking at Jane, Sir Keir replied: "About 15 or so," as Jane fired back: "It's still a lot."

Sir Keir continued: "I haven’t broken the rules, but my instinct as soon as I knew Durham had decided they were going to reopen this investigation, in my heart I knew what I was going to say, which is if I’m wrong and they find I have broken the law, then I’ll do the right thing and step down…

"I hope that isn’t going to happen, I don’t think that’s going to happen. But I’m trying to make a bigger point here, because there’s allegations - who did what/when. But there’s a bigger point here, which is trust in politics. The number of times I hear, ‘You’re all the same, you won’t do the right thing’."

Loose Women viewers weren't overly impressed with the interview and took to Twitter to comment.

One person posted: "Keir Starmer is getting his a*se handed to him by the #LooseWomen."

Another tweeted: "loose women on the tv, Keir Starmer being interviewed, absolute car crash interview. what a disaster, the women are tieing him in knots!!! Boris will be laughing at this, no wonder the tories feel invincible #beerwithkeir #beergate #keirstarmer #tories #loosewomen (sic).

Sir Keir also spoke about Arthritis Care Awareness Week during his appearance on the ITV show (ITV)

Someone else claimed: "Loose women are trying to gun for boring Keir Starmer but it’s not really working, they aren’t letting him finish answering a question. They are just straight on the attack. This isn’t an interview. #loosewomen."

Another viewer posted: "Could they have got a more Boris supporting panel today #loosewomen."

A different person added: "Sorry but I think Ruth etc were rather rude talking over him and cutting him short and making a sarcastic joke when he was trying to speak about his mother #LooseWomen."

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
