Loose Women's Charlene White forced to halt show for urgent correction after alarming error

Loose Women host Charlene White was forced to issue an urgent clarification during Thursday's show after discussion about criminals appealing life sentences led to an alarming error.

ITV News anchor Charlene was joined by panellists Linda Robson, Sunetra Sarker and Jane Moore for the latest episode of the lunchtime current affairs show which began with a discussion entitled: 'Should life sentences mean life?'

The chat was prompted by Wayne Couzens, the police officer convicted of the abduction and murder of Sarah Everard, insists that he doesn't 'deserve' life behind bars and is arguing his case at the Court of Appeal after being told he will die in prison.

Sparked by that, the Loose Women panel then discussed other convicted murderers who'd been handed life sentences including Emma Tustin, the stepmother of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes, who was sentence to life for killing the six-year-old, with his dad Thomas being handed a 21-year sentence after being prosecuted for manslaughter.

However, the Loose Women discussion featured an massive error about who was responsible for Arthur's death, with Twitter quickly full of people correcting them on the mistake.

And then, after the show returned from an ad break, Charlene momentarily paused proceedings to say: "Earlier in the show we were talking about the news that five killers are set to have their sentences reviewed and we just want to clarify that it was Arthur Labinjo-Hughes' dad Thomas Hughes and his girlfriend Emma Tustin who are appealing their sentences after they were jailed for his death," before moving onto talk about what was coming up.

Reacting to the discussion, one viewer took to Twitter to post: "Life should mean life. Five life sentences went to appeal yesterday. Three being heard are those responsible for the deaths of #SarahEverard and #ArthurLabinjoHughes I for one do NOT want them released. EVER #LifeMeansLife #Justice."
