Loose Women fans slam 'disgusting' TikTok grave twerking and funeral selfies

Loose Women fans slammed a topic of discussion on the ITV show on Thursday, as the panellists discussed whether social media should be banned from funerals.

Panellists Charlene White, Denise Welch, Jane Moore and Kelle Bryan discussed the rise of selfies and TikTok clips at funerals in the ITV studio.

The panellists looked on flabbergasted as the show played separate clips of funeral attendees twerking over a grave, posing beside an open casket and dancing in a line next to a coffin.

Denise, 63, said she doesn’t agree with these social media posts if they’re done “as a craze to get likes on TikTok”.

She then added: “I have to look back to my Dad's celebration of life - when he died my son said we’ve got to give grandpa a send off that will make him jealous he wasn’t there.”

She then said: “I wouldn’t have done a TikTok dance besides my Dad’s casket and then put that on social media.”

Host Charlene, 41, weighed in to play devil’s advocate, saying that within many communities around the world dancing at funerals is customary.

She said: “When you have traditions that are uploaded online, to those outside that culture it may seem like the most disgusting thing in the world, but when you’re in that environment it’s normal.”

As the picture of a woman in a bodycon dress posing at the head of an open casket came up on screen Kelle, 46, replied: “The picture looks more about her than paying respect to the person lying in the coffin.”

As the ITV show played a TikTok clip of a woman twerking over an ashes burial plot, alongside the caption “Nothing like twerking on your best friend in the afterlife on their deathiversary. We miss you,” Denise exclaimed: “What?”

Kelle said: “For me, twerking straddling over the coffin is one step too far.”

Loose Women viewers were outraged by the behaviour showcased in the clips on the ITV show, with many taking to Twitter to voice their “disgust”.

One wrote: “Who on Earth straddles a grave and twerks? Why would they think that’s acceptable? I’m not often shocked, but I am at this #LooseWomen”

Another tweeted: “Absolutely nothing wrong with celebrating someone’s life but using their death to promote your social media profile is beyond disgusting #LooseWomen”

As a third wrote: “Selfies at a funeral = wrong. End of. Celebrating that persons life and having fun is different #loosewomen”

A fourth social media user said: “I swear the world is falling apart, funerals shouldn’t involve phones, cameras or anything like that. #LooseWomen”

Another tweeted: “Horrendous. You just don’t take photos or film at a funeral. Oh unless you’re a raging narcissist… #LooseWomen”

Another wrote: “It’s grossly disrespectful & purely done for likes. Nobody needs to see your arse. #LooseWomen”, later adding: “Anyone does this at my old dears funeral then they’re going in the furnace with her. #LooseWomen”

A fellow fan joked: “#loosewomen if anyone twerks at my funeral in will haunt them”

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV
