Loose Women fans call for blind beauty TikToker guest to join the panel full-time

Loose Women fans were so impressed with the ITV programme's TikTok star guest on Thursday’s show they were calling for the social media sensation to join the panel full-time.

Blind beauty influencer Lucy Edwards appeared on the ITV daytime show to chat with the panellists about how her TikTok videos on living with sight loss aim to make the public “less ignorant” about the condition.

Lucy, from Sutton Coldfield, has been a hit on the social media site since launching her channel in 2020 and now has a whopping 1.7 million followers on the app.

Appearing on the show alongside her guide dog Molly, she told host Charlene White about her first TikTok video which showed her doing her own makeup and sharing the story of her condition with viewers.

Lucy has incontinentia pigmenti, which affected her sight as a child - she lost sight in her right eye at the age of 11, and in her left eye at 17.

She said: “It’s been a long time of me gaining the confidence.

“Having that patch come off and seeing nothing but darkness - the shock of that and then turning it into something positive.

“I really do feel after everything I’ve gone through, going blind is the best thing that has happened to me. I feel like when I lost my eyesight I had the vision to do what I wanted in my life.”

Loose Women viewers took to Twitter to gush about this afternoon’s guest, with one saying Lucy “does her own make up and it’s better than mine!”

A second social media user said: “Lucy should be a Loose Woman, she's amazing”

A third wrote: “Lucy is amazing she should be on your panel x #LooseWomen,” while someone else tweeted: “What an absolute amazing inspiration Lucy is #LooseWomen”

Another added: “She great! #LooseWomen”

Charlene asked Lucy if she feels people are “less ignorant” of the disability since her rise to social media fame.

Lucy replied: “Yes, I think it's really refreshing. The reaction I get from the public now is so lovely, people are so warm.”

Lucy went on to chat with panellists Jane Moore and Nadia Sawalha about her fiance Olly, who she met aged 16 before she lost her vision.

Jane asked: “Is it right you tried to release him because you felt you being blind would be a burden?”

Lucy said she did, saying: “I think it’s the medical model versus the social model of disability - meaning that I felt I was the thing that needed to be fixed rather than the world fixing for me.

“Back then when I was younger I really did believe I couldn’t have a partner or a future because being blind isn’t represented.”
