Here we look back at one of the most interesting news stories to come about during the late 1990s - Sinead O'Connor's ordination.
Exactly 23 years ago on April 22, the singer-songwriter was ordained as a priest. O'Connor was ordained as a Latin Tridentine priest and took the name Mother Bernadette Marie.
The ceremony that sparked both national and international interest took place in a hotel suite in Lourdes, France, and was performed by Bishop Michael Cox.

The decision was not taken lightly by Sinead, stating at the time: "A person shouldn't become a priest unless they take it dreadfully seriously".
The story sparked debate on whether women should be allowed to enter the priesthood. Upon her ordination, Sinead was given the ability to perform all the sacraments and even said mass in Latin and English a number of times over the years.
Just a couple of days after being ordained, O'Connor made an appearance on The Late Late Show for former presenter Gay Byrne's final episode on April 30.
Of course, her ordination was discussed, and she said: "What I call my holy trinity is I am mother, I am a singer and I am a priest, these things are equally sacred to me".
