Right now, the Pittsburgh Steelers fanbase has turned on the team. Two close wins and two blowout losses have raised many doubts as to the real potential of this team. But what is the cause? The answer to that question depends on who you ask. The reality is there isn’t one singular reason this group is playing so poorly. Let’s take a look at the four big arguments for why this team is so bad and you might realize the answer is probably all of the above.
Poor coaching
This one is across the board. From head coach Mike Tomlin and both offensive and defensive coordinators, this group is not putting the players in good positions to win. The schemes on both sides of the football are predictable and repetitive. They also seem incapable of any meaningful in-game adjustments.
Lack of effort by players
When you are a grown adult making an exorbitant salary to play a kid’s game, do you need someone else to motivate you to do your best? This roster has looked unmotivated, listless and been out-hustled in every game this season, even the wins.
Maybe it's just Kenny Pickett
Kenny Pickett has definitely taken a step back as a quarterback this season. His pocket awareness is completely gone and he’s seeing ghosts. His throws are all over the place with one throw being a laser right on the mark to a panicked attempt that leads to an interception. Perhaps we should all temper our expectations that this is the team’s future.
Lack of talent on the roster
We love to hype the players on this roster. After all you have guys who are high draft picks and huge contracts. But maybe we have all just overshot how good players like running back Najee Harris, cornerback Patrick Peterson and wide receiver George Pickens actually are. Perhaps the coaches are doing the best they can with what they have but this group isn’t as good as they are on paper.
