LookFantastic’s £40 skincare box contains everything I need to get summer-ready

The official start of summer is just four weeks away, which means I’m quickly running out of time to sort my skin out ahead of my upcoming summer holidays, hen parties and music festivals. But LookFantastic has got just the trick to kit beauty buffs out with glowing skin from head to toe in the nick of time.

The beauty subscription company and retailer has revealed their new Summer of Skin Edit, which features more than £130 worth of summer skincare for just £40.

Complete with SPF, suncare, self-tan and skin-smoothing products, it truly is the ultimate way to prep your skin for the rays to come.

The box features nine iconic products - five of which are full size - from best-loved and viral brands like Piz Buin, Sol De Janeiro, Isle of Paradise and REN.

The LookFantastic Summer of Skin edit comes in an iridescent sleeve and cute multi coloured box. I’ve always found these boxes to be really useful for creating pamper hampers for birthdays of friends and family members, or in drawers as little dividers to keep things safe.

But for the next four weeks, this box isn’t leaving my bedside table, as I’m going to be using it religiously up until the very moment I get on the plane for my first holiday abroad in five years.

Here’s everything inside the £40 LookFantastic Summer of Skin edit:

  • Mio Heavenly Body Purifying Scrub 275g (full-size) – worth £25

  • Isle of Paradise HYGLO Hyaluronic Self-Tan Serum for Face (full-size) – worth £21.95

  • Erborian CC Red Correct SPF25 (full-size) – worth £20.50

  • Ren AHA Smart Renewal Body Serum – worth £16

  • Piz Buin Moisturising Lotion SPF 30 (full-size) – worth £15.48

  • Disciple Healthy Boundaries SPF lip balm (full-size) – worth £12

  • Sol De Janeiro Bom Dia Cream – worth £10.00

  • NUXE After Sun Hair and Body Shampoo – worth £6.50

  • Vita Liberata Untinted Fabulous Gradual Tanning Lotion 50ml – worth £3.75

Three of the nine products in the box are all worth more than £20 each , which already exceeds the cost of the box, essentially making the rest of it free. The Mio Heavenly Body Purifying Scrub is a huge 275g tub of salt scrub, perfect for exfoliating to buff skin into a summer glow.

Containing almond and coconut, it can be used on dry skin for a heavier exfoliation, or with water for a more gentle effect. Complete with eucalyptus oil, it smells super fresh and earthy with a spa-like quality ideal for upgrading your showers.

Then there’s the full-size £21.95 Isle of Paradise self-tanning serum, which can be used before bed to work overnight. Deeply hydrating with hyaluronic acid, it doesn’t dry the skin out, and you can add as many or as few drops as you want to get a desired tan. I’ve never really used tanning products because I find them a bit scary and high-maintenance, but this is a really easy way to get a glow without too much effort. I tend to add four drops to my night cream for a subtle effect.

One of the products I was most impressed with was the REN AHA Smart Renewal Body Serum – worth £16 - which smells exactly like Calypso lollies, which couldn’t be more summery if it tried. Harnessing the powers of lactic acid, the resurfacing treatment gently buffs away dead, dull surface cells to help combat pigmentation and uneven areas. I’ve been very self conscious about the appearance of my thighs of late, so this power-product is my new best friend. The fact it smells incredible makes it all the more delightful to use, too.

And if you love REN skincare, Boots have also got a skincare box filled with £122.50 worth of REN products for £50.

I recently ran out of my favourite Dr Jart Cicapair and haven’t had change to restock it yet, but in the meantime, I’ll be using the Erborian CC Red Correct SPF25 . At first glance, cream appears green but upon application it adapts to match your skin-tone and evens out redness while reducing the appearance of blemishes. Personally I don’t love it quite as much as the Dr Jart product, but it’ll definitely save me having to restock for a little while.

Piz Buin is a brand I’ve used for the longest time, and my dad swears by it. We’re both pale, ginger and suffer with prickly heat, but this SPF moisturising lotion has always been a winner for us. Priced at £15.48, it’s not the cheapest suncream on the market, but being able to pick it up in a bundle full of other suncare saviours helps absorb the cost and make it feel much more worthwhile.

Sol De Janeiro is a brand I can’t go five minutes without seeing pop up on TikTok, and their Bom Dia Cream smells like summer in a tub, so I’ll be slathering myself in that all month. But there are also some lesser known (to me, anyway) products featured, including the NUXE After Sun Hair and Body Shampoo which is a great way to wash away salt, sand and chlorine after a day at the beach or pool, as well as the Vita Liberata Untinted Fabulous Gradual Tanning Lotion and Disciple Healthy Boundaries SPF lip balm.

Out of all of the products, I’d say the Mio Heavenly Body Purifying Scrub, Ren AHA Smart Renewal Body Serum and Piz Buin Moisturising Lotion SPF 30 are my favourites, as well as the Sol De Janeiro Bom Dia Cream, which together are worth well over the £40 you pay to purchase the edit.

If you do happen to discover any products you won’t use or don’t like, I like to keep a box of unopened products to give as gifts throughout the year, which saves me money on stocking fillers in the long run.

Already, the Summer of Skin edit has nearly 60 five star reviews , and not a single one or two star rating. One happy shopper said: “This box is in my opinion, the best box ever from Lookfantastic. This is definitely one that I will use everything, that has major brands and full size or generous mini sizes products. Everything is in there for the summer.”

With another commenting: “Fabulous summer skin set, containing all you need to keep glowing throughout the summer. High quality brands and at a fantastic price. HIghly recommend.”

Shoppers can purchase the Summer of Skin edit for £40 here, or, if you are a LookFantastic subscriber you can get £10 off and save £100 on the value of the box.

The LookFantastic subscription costs £13 each month for a year, which gets you over £50 worth of products delivered straight to your door each month, plus early access to limited and seasonal boxes with £10 off special editions.

They’re not the only skincare haul on the market at the moment, though. Face The Future has also got their May Travel Edit, featuring around £402 worth of skincare products for £59.99. It contains 15 items which all fit into a handy zippable bag perfect for travelling.

Or, there’s the Debenhams Skin Discovery Beauty Box which was originally £30, but has been reduced to £24. It’s bursting with nearly £200 worth of serums, moisturisers and nourishing lip balms that will help you get your skin in check ahead of the summer season.

But if it is the LookFantastic Summer of Skin edit you’ve got your eye on, you can buy it her for £40.
