The Minnesota Twins‘ 3-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox may have come at a costly price after two key starters went down with injuries.
With the Twins up 1-0 in the seventh inning, star outfielder Byron Buxton collided with White Sox infielder Lenyn Sosa as he attempted to reach second base on a slow infield grounder hit by Nick Gordon.
Sosa, trying to field the ball, ran directly into the path of Buxton. The violent collision sent Buxton flipping up and over Sosa—resulting with Buxton landing on his head.
After being face down on the ground for several minutes, Buxton was able to get up and walk off the field under his own power. As a precaution, the Twins star was removed from the game.

The No. 2 pick in the 2012 MLB draft has unfortunately battled several injuries over the course of his career. He’s off to a solid start this season, hitting .302 in his first 11 games.
Earlier in the game, the Twins lost starting shortstop Kyle Farmer when he was struck in the face by a 92-mph Lucas Giolito fastball in the fourth inning. After receiving medical attention on the field, Farmer needed assistance to walk off the field.

The Twins, who are off to an 8-4 start, sit in first place in the AL Central. Minnesota will head to New York for a four-game series with the Yankees starting on Thursday.
