Look out for fairies at historic Dumfriesshire building

Fairies can be spotted all around the garden of an historic Dumfriesshire building tomorrow at a free fun event.

Volunteer trustees of Torthorwald’s Cruck Cottage are inviting the public to pop in to see the magical fairyfolk which have taken residence around the impressive thatched, lime washed and earth-floored, A-listed building.

There are plenty of fairies of every description to look out for among the planting, and rustic fairy doors will be on sale.

A design a fairy competition will also be held with the winner getting to see it turned into a hallmarked silver version.

There will also be a colouring competition and the template can now be downloaded from The Cruck Cottage Facebook page.

There is nothing to stop youngsters from going dressed up in their own themed costumes.

Visitors can also look around the enchanting building which is lovingly cared for by the Cruck Cottage Heritage group which has been pulling out the stops to make it look its best.

Bill Lawson, chairman of the group, said: “The fairy event is the idea of a member, John Oliver, and he has done a tremendous job of putting all this together.

“It is something completely new for us, and I am sure the kids will love it. The fairies have taken over the garden, and are hiding everywhere, waiting to be found. There will be colouring competitions with prizes, and a few fairy doors for sale. All we need is the weather.”

Tomorrow’s event runs from 10am to 4pm.
