The Spartans have lost three straight games but their NET ranking has remained relatively high during the skid.
Michigan State came up short in a tough battle at Purdue on Saturday night, which dropped them to 17-12 overall and 9-9 in Big Ten play. That loss, however, didn’t hurt the Spartans in the NET rankings but actually boosted them two spots. Michigan State now sits at No. 22 overall in the NET rankings.
MSU moved up 2 spots to No. 22 in updated NET rankings this morning. Spartans are No. 20 in KenPom rankings.
At 17-12, some will argue that MSU shouldn’t be in tournament discussion but metrics continue to love this team and that’ll go long way in selection process.

The NET rankings are a metric used to help determine who will make the NCAA Tournament. Michigan State’s record suggests they are in trouble of missing of the big dance, but the NET rankings points to them having a good chance at still making it.
Michigan State will look to snap its three-game losing streak in their next game against Northwestern on Wednesday. After that, Michigan State will head to Indiana to finish up the regular season on Sunday. The Spartans could use a pair of wins to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament, and at a minimum must win at least one of those games.
