A pensioner has today told of her disgust at the lowlife thief who stole her bag after she was blown off her feet by Storm Malik's winds.
As winds reaching up to 90mph battered the North East, in January, Pauline Maughan braved the extreme weather to walk to her local shops, in Longbenton. And when a strong gust knocked the 77-year-old to the ground one cruel criminal saw the opportunity to pounce.
As Pauline lay helpless on the pavement, the callous car driver jumped out his vehicle to steal Pauline's handbag, which had blown into the road. Police are still hunting the thief, who drove away as kind strangers came to his victim's aid.
