The long wait for Stewarty Show’s return is over.
Thousands of people are set to descend on Greenlaw today for the highlight of the Stewartry’s agricultural calendar.
And the 74th show is particularly noteworthy as it is the first to take place since 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Show vice-president Ian Smith said: “Things are looking good and we’re really looking forward to it after the last few years.
“Hopefully people will come back out after two years to see what’s happening and chat to people. We had some help from the Young farmers on Sunday. They have always been involved but it was great to have them on board.
“I think it’s to be wet beforehand but the forecast for the show day is good and the ground is good there.”
The show is taking place at Stewartry RFC’s home at Greenlaw and gates open at 9am, with free parking on site. There will also be a free shuttle bus running to and from Market Hill in Castle Douglas to the showfield from 10am.
Livestock judging gets under way earlier than that at 8.30am, with the champion of champions parade in the main ring at 2pm. There will also be a dog show and showjumping which can be entered on the day, children’s entertainment, homecrafts, floral art, a craft marquee and stalls.
Main ring entertainment includes the Vander Brothers Wheel of Death and Stewartry Dog Agility Team. And also making an appearance will be Kelton – a one-tonne wicker Beltie bull. And the Galloway Glens Landscape Partnership scheme will be setting up a family fun tent.
The lead sponsors of this year’s show are Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Ltd.
