Long Shot’s Reopens Retail Sports Betting Operations in Maryland

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission (MLGCC) recently authorized Long Shot’s in Frederick to relaunch retail sports wagering operations with its new operator partner, Caesars Sportsbook.

Long Shot’s in Frederick is the 13th retail sportsbook location operating in Maryland after relaunching

On Dec. 17 and 19, Long Shot’s and Caesars Sportsbook successfully completed a controlled demonstration of their facility in Frederick. Customers participated in live betting as MLGCC staff ensured that the sportsbook complied with all required procedures and that its systems functioned properly.

Caesars Sportsbook is also partnered with Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore for both mobile and retail sports betting. With the reopening of Long Shot’s in Frederick, there are now 13 retail sportsbook locations currently operating in Maryland, in addition to 11 mobile sports wagering platforms.

Long Shot’s had previously partnered with Betfred to operate retail and mobile sports wagering, prior to Betfred’s decision to withdraw from Maryland.

Additionally, Long Shot’s and Betfred operated from their retail location from Nov. 18, 2022, to June 9, 2024, and their mobile platform operated from Feb. 9, 2023, through July 14, 2024.

However, Long Shot’s has not announced a new partnership for mobile wagering.

Sports betting contributed over $40 million to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund through first five months of FY2025

Through the first five months of Fiscal Year 2025 (July 2024 through November 2024), sports wagering contributed more than $40 million to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, compared to $18.1 million for the same period in FY2024.

The Blueprint Fund supports public education programs. Expired sports wagering prizes during FY2025 have totaled an additional $362,182 paid to the Maryland Problem Gambling Fund, which supports responsible gambling programs, including no-cost counseling for Maryland residents.

Maryland Lottery and Gaming operates the Maryland Lottery and is responsible for regulatory oversight of the state’s casinos and sports betting program.

In its regulatory role, the agency provides direction and guidance to casino and sports wagering operators on financial, security, regulatory, and licensing procedures.

Problem gamblers in Maryland are encouraged to reach out for confidential help and immediate assistance. At no cost, gamblers can call 1-800-GAMBLER or visit mdgamblinghelp.org.
