Connecting the English capital and Perth via Edinburgh Waverley, the first car-sleeper rail services debuted in 1955 and allowed Tayside’s motorists the freedom of taking their car on their holidays while avoiding the gruelling 450-mile drive south.
Services ran twice weekly and soon increased to several times a week in what would prove to be a very popular method of travel.
