Long jump star Marquis Dendy secured victory at the World Indoor Tour Final in Birmingham whilst competing in a balaclava and a bucket hat.
Dendy took to the arena on Saturday to compete in the men's long jump in which he reached the final. When taking to track in the final round, the American jumper was seen sporting a rather unconventional outfit on the big stage.
Dendy landed the event-winning jump all whilst wearing a blue bucket hat on his head, and a black balaclava covering all but his eyes over his face.
The American athlete's winning jump was an impressive one, landing an excellent 8.27 metre jump at the Utilta Arena.
His event-winning performance is not the first time the 30-year-old Delaware long jumper has sported a similar look whilst competing.
Back in August, Dendy wore the same hat whilst competing out on the track in the Diamond League. Following his interesting outfit in Birmingham this weekend, the 30-year-old athlete gained plenty of attention from those watching on.
One fan - @SteveJtait - saw the funny side of the balaclava and hat combo, writing on Twitter : "Marquis Dendy .. possibly then only man to win an Indoor LJ wearing an Owl bucket hat and face mask."
Another Twitter user in @LillzTIL could not quite believe what they were watching, posting: "Marquis Dendy is legit doing the long jump in a bucket hat… glad I got to witness this live, thought it was an ancient myth," whilst @False0F9 added: "Loooool a look."
Dendy recorded his best jump since 2018, and was no doubt more than pleased post-event. Speaking to Citius Mag, he said: "There has been a lot of work in the off-season. I have had some injuries you know, I tore my labarum, my achilles, but I stayed mentally strong."
He went on: "Covid kind of helped me too. I took care of myself, eating better, sleeping better. I did a lot more scientific stuff, and I used that all and it came to fruition, so now I can take this momentum into outdoor. Keeping taking care of myself and keep progressing."
