The cause of a house fire in Long Ashton yesterday is unknown. Firefighters from Avon Fire and Rescue Service tackled the fire at a semi-detached home in Ridgeway Road shortly after noon.
Crews from Temple, Kingswood, Bedminster, Nailsea and Avonmouth attended the incident. People were evacuated from the affected properties and Ridgeway Road was closed in both directions for several hours.
A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "On arrival, crews found a fire in the loft space of a semi-detached house. The fire further affected the roof space of the adjoining property.

"With eight firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, crews two turntable ladders, four high pressure hose reels and one 45mm jet to extinguish the fire. Also in use were thermal imaging cameras and gas monitors to check the safety of the scene.
"Crews continued to monitor the scene for some time. The cause of the incident remains unknown."
Fire services confirmed in the midst of the blaze on Friday (October 28) that all persons had been evacuated from the affected properties. Fire crews also advised everyone to avoid the area while efforts to quell the fire were ongoing in order to allow easy access for emergency vehicles.
