Biographer James Gavin was led astray writing his new memoir George Michael: A Life. In an attempt to trace the late Wham! singer’s steps from his Highgate home to the Hampstead Heath hook-up spots he infamously visited, the author failed to get lucky. “I couldn’t find the part of it for cruising,” he tells us. “There wasn’t anybody around that looked like I could ask.”
The hunt helped paint the picture of a place “George spent so many hours”, in the book published in the UK on July 7. Gavin struggled to find a publisher in 2017. Most perceived Michael “as a faded, 1980s pop star who had fallen into disgrace,” in part due to his reported drug-taking and sex escapades. The tome details Michael’s nocturnal habits near the West Heath. “It was one of his homes away from home,” Gavin says. Fear not James, there is always next time.
Munroe has green dream
MUNROE Bergdorf has dreams of greener pastures. The trans activist and model has said a career shift into hosting a garden landscaping TV series may well be on the cards after telling us of her passion for “overgrown gardens and getting back to nature”. “There should be more people that can do shows that don’t relate to their identity,” she says. Pass the pruners.
Rain on my parade
The heavens opened on Hyde Park yesterday evening, as a crowd gathered outside for a private gathering at Serpentine Gallery. Anna Wintour did well to maintain the pristine bob, and she joined designer Harris Reed and singer Sam Smith in reaching for the umbrellas. Models Iris Law and Adowa Aboah also attended. In Mayfair, Annabel’s hosted a Pride Club Night. For one night only, the private members’ club stripped away their strict dress code and opened the doors to Heartstopper actress Yasmin Finney, designer Daniel Fletcher and PVC princess Pandemonia.
