Most people considering a day out in London expect to have to splash the cash. Everything from getting around to grabbing a bite to eat can push up the cost.
However one Londoner has taken to TikTok to show how to enjoy a day in the capital for less than £10. And that includes transport to get around, food and drink, reports MyLondon.
With London currently standing as the fourth most expensive city in the world many might think taking a trip out to see the sights is beyond their pocket. And with the spiralling cost of living it could feel impossible to explore the city.
So when the Londoner posted a TikTok video showing ways to enjoy a cheap day out it went down a storm. The video offers suggestions of where to go and top tips on doing it on a budget.
@bucketlist began their video by looking at transport. They suggested: "Grab a Santander bike for 24 hours to cycle around Embankment and just taken Big Ben in, and the London Eye".
Londoners should note, however, that on September 12, 2022, there will be some changes to Santander cycles. E-bikes will be added and the existing daily access charge is being replaced with a single ride charge of £1.65 per 30 minutes. There is also a new monthly subscription option costing £20 per month.
The TikToker continued: "Then you get to pedal down to Chinatown for a cheeky snack. We've grabbed a Green Tea Cake and pork bun for £3.20". Embankment to Chinatown is only a 13 minute cycle - and the perfect route to take in the sights."
Tourists can then get back on their bikes before heading over to the British Museum, where there is an upcoming exhibit called 'Hieroglyphs: unlocking ancient Egypt'.
Next up, the Tiktoker suggests: "Finally, head over to Regent's Park where they have a cute Cafe and grab the cheeky iced coffee and skip my way to the Japanese garden to sit and sip, for £3.25." This is about a 10 minute cycle from The British Museum.
While it's not clear which café was visited in the video, the park is home to The Regent's Bar & Kitchen. This is located in the middle of Regent's Park on the Inner Circle, close to the Open Air Theatre and to the Queen Mary's Gardens.
In total, the trip cost just £8.45 for the entire day out in the capital. The video has now amassed over 300k views - with most people welcoming the suggestions.
But one person called out the itinerary for not having enough snack breaks. They said: "Gonna be way more hungry after cycling all that way to just have a bun and some cakes". Another added: "Man could've had a Tesco meal deal but chose that."
