London weather: Mini heatwave to hit the capital later this month

London may experience a mini heatwave later this month, with temperatures set to hit 20°C degrees.

The Met Office has suggested that London may experience “above-average” temperatures at the end of April, while the BBC weather forecast predicts highs of 20°C by April 17.

According to the Met Office, the average temperature high in the UK in April is 12°C, while the warmest April on record was in1949, when temperatures in London reached 29°C.

And although we won’t see the mercury rise that high this time, London is expected to see warmer weather than usual.

The Met Office’s forecast for April 25 to May 9 is as follows: “Confidence in the forecast is fairly low for the end of April and early May.

“In general, there is a greater chance of more settled weather dominating during this period, maintaining the likelihood of morning fog patches and late season night frosts.”

The forecast adds: “However, there is also a chance of seeing some unsettled or changeable spells of weather, too. Temperatures are most likely to be above average overall for the time of year.”

The BBC predicts temperatures of 20°C to last from April 17 until April 20. From April 21, temperatures will begin to cool to 17°C-19°C.

Over this week, rain and strong winds are expected, with temperature highs ranging between 11°C and 16°C,  before warming up at the beginning of next week.

Meanwhile, Jim Dale, at British Weather Services, told The Express, “We do get heatwaves in April, it does happen. It’ll be a soft heatwave for the second half of April, it could get somewhere in the mid-20s pushing to May, in that general direction.

“I can’t be overly detailed at the moment, but the signs are there for this kind of change — it’s when you see the charts going in that direction. The only thing we have to work with is unpredictability, but it is certainly going that way at the moment.”
