London is forecast to be hotter than Greece next week with the capital to bask in gloriously sunny weather.
The Met Office has forecast temperatures to reach a peak of 25C on Tuesday, beating the 23C predicted in Athens.
Six days of virtually uninterrupted sunshine are forecast from today in London in what could be a final blast of fine weather before Autumn.
Monday and Wednesday are forecast to be 23C, while Thursday and Friday will be between 21C and 22C.
Temperatures are forecast to be 22C next Saturday, but with cloud returning.
However it will not signify a heatwave that many had hoped would arrive in September.
Much of the UK is forecast to enjoy fine weather next week, with a build up of high pressure responsible for the temperatures rising.
The Met Office said: “The change begins with developments over the Atlantic. A deep area of low pressure is expected to form well to the west of the UK. Although this system is not forecast to move directly across the country, it is likely to drag warmer air up from the continent and subtropical Atlantic.
“High pressure will then build across the UK alongside this warmer air during the latter part of the weekend and into next week. This would mean a transition to predominantly dry and bright conditions, with sunny spells becoming more widespread.”
The fine weather will be welcome before unsettled conditions forecast for October.
The Met Office’s long term forecast fort next month says: “Changeable and occasionally unsettled weather is likely to become more frequent through October, with spells of rain and stronger winds increasingly likely to move in from the Atlantic. Between these periods, some drier and brighter interludes are also expected.
“As is often the case for October, deeper areas of low pressure may occasionally bring spells of very strong winds. Temperatures are expected to remain slightly above average overall, although brief cooler interludes are possible.”
It comes after a record-breaking dry summer, with multiple heatwaves in London.
