Londoners were enjoying exceptionally mild weather on Thursday with the capital seeing temperatures in the high teens.
The Met Office recorded 18C in Teddington shortly after midday.
St James Park in central London was not far behind as it hit 17.8C in the early afternoon, forecaster Craig Snell told The Standard.
Usually, London’s February temperatures average at around 9C.
The record high for February was in 2019, when the mercury hit 21.2C in Kew Gardens.
Mr Snell said: “While not record-breaking, (Thursday’s) temperatures are definitely on the higher end of the scale, with it feeling a lot more like spring than winter.
“This will be a welcome reminder that we only have two weeks left of winter, spring is just on our doorstep.”
Friday will not be as warm, with temperatures set to average at around 14C, reaching a high of 15C.
But this is still a lot milder than regular February weather, Mr Snell pointed out.
The capital will see pockets of sunshine between 8am and 5pm before it gets colder in the evening.
This weekend is looking a little more miserable, with “increasing cloud and wind on Saturday, ahead of heavy rain arriving by the evening.”
Although some sunshine will appear again on Sunday, it will likely be chilly and wet at times.
London is not included in Thursday’s yellow weather warnings about rain, which cover much of the south-west and the Midlands.
The Met Office has warned that flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely, with disruption expected to travel and possibly some power supplies.
