London travel news LIVE: London Overground cancellations disrupts services to Stratford

A shortage of train drivers on the Mildmay line is causing disruption to London Overground services this afternoon.

Fewer trains are able to run between Stratford and Gospel Oak or Willesden Junction, with services to and from Stratford cancelled as a result. Disruption is expected to continue until around 15:30.

The Elizabeth and Weaver lines are also reporting a reduced service.

What happened on the A11?

The A11 has been shut in both directions between the A134 at Thetford and the B1106 at Elveden following a multi-vehicle collision.

National Highways said Norfolk Constabulary alerted them at around 9.15pm on Sunday, December 28 after a crash occurred on the southbound carriageway near Thetford.

Both carriageways remain closed while emergency services — including police, fire crews, ambulance teams and the East Anglian Air Ambulance — respond at the scene. Officers have confirmed that collision investigation work is required.

The A11 will remain closed until these investigations are completed, and no re-opening time has yet been confirmed.

Delays on A12

Major engineering work in the London Waterloo area

And until Friday, January 2, no trains will call at Queenstown Road (Battersea). You should use other local stations to start / finish your journey.

On Saturday, January 3, a reduced and amended service will run between Barnes and Clapham Junction. Some trains will be amended to start / terminate at Woking / Basingstoke / Clapham Junction instead of at London Waterloo.

Severe delays on the M6 after crash near Stoke-on-Trent

Drivers using the M6 today should be prepared for severe disruption around Cheshire and Staffordshire.

Problems began late morning after a crash reported at 11:48am, with traffic grinding to a halt between Stoke-on-Trent junctions 15 and 16.

The Standard’s picture editor Gareth, who was caught up in the congestion near Sandbach Services, described southbound traffic as “pretty much at a standstill” with vehicles only creeping forward intermittently.

Delays are estimated at around 40 minutes to an hour, with long periods of stationary traffic.

If you’re travelling this route, it’s worth allowing extra time, considering alternative routes, or stopping off until traffic eases.

Lines have now reopened after the emergency services completing their work after dealing with an incident between Oxford and Worcester Shrub Hill.

Whilst service recovers, trains running between stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

Disruption is expected until 08:30am.

Holloway Road Station will be partly closed today

Holloway Road Station will be closed eastbound between 19:00 and 20:00, and will be exit only for westbound services.

During return traffic the station will be closed at 21:40 approximately and will be kept closed until 23:10 approximately.

As a result of the disruption the following services have been amended:

  • 10:50 London Waterloo to Salisbury will be cancelled
  • 12:47 Salisbury to London Waterloo will be cancelled
  • 12:51 Salisbury to Yeovil Junction will be cancelled
  • 13:38 Yeovil Junction to Salisbury will be cancelled
  • 14:50 London Waterloo to Salisbury will be cancelled
  • 14:51 Yeovil Junction to Salisbury will be cancelled
  • 20:52 Salisbury to London Waterloo will be cancelled
  • 22:50 London Waterloo to Salisbury will be cancelled
  • 09:50 London Waterloo to Yeovil Junction will finish at Salisbury
  • 17:23 London Waterloo to Exeter St Davids will be revised to run non-stop from London Waterloo to Salisbury due to fewer carriages than normal
  • 18:50 London Waterloo to Yeovil Pen Mill will be revised to run non-stop from London Waterloo to Andover due to fewer carriages than normal

There are minor delays on the Elizabeth line between Paddington and Hayes & Harlington & Heathrow Terminals while Network Rail deal with a points failure at Acton Main Line.
