London orders the most supermarket deliveries of any UK city, new data reveals

With Christmas fast approaching, some Brits may be relying on a trustee supermarket delivery to get them prepped and ready for the big day. No more battling the busy high streets and the Christmas crowds to get to your local big Tesco. Supermarket delivery services have made the process quicker, easier and more stress-free. But which city orders the most supermarket deliveries?  

Uber Eats has revealed that Londoners order the most supermarket deliveries of any UK city, followed by Manchester and Birmingham. 

Top 3 cities to order groceries on Uber Eats:

  1. London

  2. Manchester

  3. Birmingham

When it comes to the most popular items in the capital, milk takes home the crown, followed by Coca-Cola and lemons.

Top 10 items sold (London):

  1. Milk

  2. Coca-Cola

  3. Lemons

  4. Easy Peelers

  5. Bananas

  6. Party Ice-Cubes

  7. Apple Juice

  8. Ben & Jerry’s Cookie Dough Ice-Cream

  9. Orange Juice

  10. Cucumber

Uber Eats has also announced the top ten supermarket products ordered on the app in 2023. Milk came out on top, followed by bananas, as well as Pepsi Max and Sour Cream and Onion Pringles.

The top ten most ordered items on Uber Eats:

  1. Milk

  2. Bananas

  3. Eggs

  4. White bread

  5. Pepsi Max

  6. Cucumber

  7. Coca Cola

  8. Orange Juice

  9. Spring Water

  10. Pringles Sour Cream and Onion

The most popular day for supermarket deliveries was Monday, followed by Sunday as Brits look to restock their cupboards and fridges ahead of a new week. The app saw the most orders between 4-7pm across the week, whilst London was the home of the supermarket order, placing more orders than the rest of the UK.

The festive season is upon us, so to help with last-minute gifting, Uber Eats is rolling out brand-new digital shopping aisles for those in need of last-minute gifts or forgotten ingredients.

The new aisles include a gifting section that selects the best gifts available across all stores on the app, so whether you’re buying for a chocolate-obsessed friend, or you’ve forgotten your work secret Santa gift, Uber Eats will deliver the items you need.

Uber Eats will be available across the Christmas period and aims to deliver the item within 30 minutes. Categories include Chocolate Lovers, Secret Santa, Sweet Stocking Fillers, For New Parents and Film Buffs. 

Alex Troughton, Head of Grocery and Retail at Uber Eats UK said “Grocery and convenience items continue to be hugely popular with Uber Eats customers, we’ve seen massive growth in 2023 and expect this to continue over the festive period. We’re always looking to innovate in the space to make shopping on Uber Eats a seamless experience and our new digital shopping aisles are the latest way we’re achieving this.”
