London mayoral election: last day drama ...The Standard podcast

According to a new poll, London's mayoral race has tightened in its final 48 hours, with the gap between Sadiq Khan and Susan Hall closing to the smallest since their campaigns started.

The Savanta survey for the Centre for London put the Labour mayor on 42 per cent and Tory candidate 32 per cent.

The gap of ten percentage points is down from 13 points in a Savanta poll published last week.

On this edition of The Standard podcast, Jon Weeks joins our political editor Nicholas Cecil who runs through the final poll results ahead of Thursday's vote.

In part two, city hall editor Ross Lydall explains the latest from the mayoral candidate camps, as they made their final pitch for votes on Wednesday.

Sadiq Khan has said there was “all to play for” — and expressed concerns that a low turnout would benefit his Tory rival Susan Hall.

More than six million Londoners are eligible to vote on Thursday, but turnout could dip below the 40 per cent seen in 2021, meaning fewer than 2.4 million people will cast a ballot.

Ross also reveals some of the final day drama including Sadiq Khan's advertising van driver sleeping through his alarm and Susan Hall denying being banned from tweeting.

Plus, Nicholas tells us why you'll need ID to vote on Thursday.
