Runners hoping to take part in next year’s London Marathon have been left fuming after its website crashed on Monday, with some begging to be “put out of our misery.” The race is set to return to its usual slot on April 23, 2023, and the ballot for participants closed in early October with runners required to sign up to be in with a chance of taking part.
Those who had entered the ballot were sent emails from organisers on Monday (October 24), but the message asked them to click through to the London Marathon website to see if they had been successful. As they did, users were met with a series of messages telling them their result was unavailable and the website was down.
The official London Marathon Twitter account posted a message on Twitter at 4.05pm confirming the issue, with the website not loading and impossible to be reached by frustrated visitors. It read: “We are aware of an issue that means some of you can't currently access your ballot results.

"We’re working on a fix and will update you as soon as we can. For the moment please wait until we have provided an update before trying to click through to your results. Apologies, TCSLM.”
Many marathon hopefuls who had been waiting to find out if they had been successful took to social media to vent their frustrations at the outage, describing it as “very poor.” One user wrote: “It's a bit like waking up early on Christmas morning and your parents telling you you'll have to wait.”
Another said: “Wait all day for an email refreshing every minute. Get the email, then can’t get into the link. Very poor.”
“It’s 2022 and websites still can’t handle numerous people on their servers at once,” another added. “I really just want to know if I’m in for London or if I need to find a new marathon next year.”
