The team tasked with restoring the Houses of Parliament visited Manchester Town Hall today (March 17) to learn lessons from its 'spiritual cousin'. The delegation came from London to gain insight from the Our Town Hall project.
It comes as the £325m restoration of the 150-year-old Grade I-listed building enters its final stages with the project reaching the halfway mark last year. Since closing in 2018, the building has become encased by a white weather-tight 'wrap' covering some of the most extensive scaffolding in Europe.
Underneath it, specialist workers are carrying out the painstaking task of restoring every aspect of the Victorian neo-gothic building. The project set to finish by 2024 is the biggest heritage project currently under way in the UK.
