When will the heatwave end in London? Exact date in July the hot blast is now expected to end

A third heatwave this year has brought temperatures as high as 34C to the capital - and more sizzling weather is on the way.

It follows record-breaking temperatures at the end of June, with heat and humidity playing havoc with public services as Londoners sweltered and flocked to lidos across the city.

Temperatures reached 37.7C in Norfolk on June 26, making it the hottest June day on record.

An unprecedented heatwave in late May saw temperatures reach 35.1C in Kew Gardens - the highest temperature for the month ever recorded in the UK.

Now, the mercury has risenonce again, with 34C reached on Monday and Thursday as the third heatwave of the year took hold.

What’s the forecast for the next few days?

According to the Met Office’s latest forecast (as of 7am on Friday, July 10), daily peak temperatures will stay above the 28C threshold for an official heatwave through to Thursday, July 16.

If this pans out, it would mean London will have basked in a 12-day heatwave. On Thursday, the same forecaster was predicting a nine-day heatwave with the peak temperature dropping below 28C on Tuesday.

The heatwave is likely to have reached an “absolute peak” on Thursday before easing slightly with 31C expected on Friday and 30C on Saturday.
