
Firefighters in London exposed to toxic substances have a higher chance of being diagnosed with cancer than the general population, a new report has found.
Research commissioned by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) found higher cancer incidence and abnormal tumour markers present among firefighters — those exposed who may routinely be exposed to harmful substances, including known carcinogens such as asbestos, heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants.
