London has become the B Corp capital of the world with more than 1000 companies being awarded the certification for their sustainable policies.
Almost half the UK’s B Corps are in London including well known names such as Lily’s Kitchen, Cafédirect , Lucky Saint, giffgaff, The Guardian, DASH Water, Newcore Capital Management, Hawksmoor, Charlie Bighams, Chilly’s, Tribe Impact Capital, Brompton Bicycle, Notpla, Ten Lifestyle Group, Pizza Pilgrims, Here We Flo and Candy Kittens.
Smaller businesses in London with between 10 and 49 employees are driving the movement forward with around 500 certified as B Corps. There are a further 300 micro-sized businesses of between 1 and 9 employees, 200 medium-sized businesses of between 50 and 249 employees and 50 large companies of between 250 and 999 employees.
To become a B Corp, businesses are required to measure and improve their impact on their employees, customers, local communities and the environment while making a legal commitment by amending their Articles of Association.
Annie Olivier, head of growth at certification body B Lab UK said: “London has a rich history of leadership and innovation in business and the city’s latest milestone is a reminder of this.
“In order to transform our economy, we need businesses of all shapes and sizes — from start-ups to publicly-listed companies — to be accountable for their impact on people and the planet. The diverse nature of businesses which now make up the B Corp movement is testament to the changing mindset of the corporate world, with more and more balancing the needs of people and the planet alongside profit.
“We look forward to continue driving the B Corp community’s growth both in London and across the UK over the coming years and seeing the positive impact these businesses have on wider society.”
